Cannabis FAQ

You must present a valid California ID (driver’s license, utility or phone bill or other such document with your name and a California address on it.)

Medical records are required if you are under 21 years of age.  If older that 21, medical records, prescription bottle, pharmacy records or any other documentation of your condition is preferred, but not required.  If we are unable to qualify you for this program, there is no charge.

Do I need my doctor’s referral?

No, you may see us without a referral.

What if I do not have a doctor?

Many patients are already medicating themselves with cannabis without ever seeing a doctor for their condition, and simply want to be legal.   Again, if we are unable to qualify you for this program, there is no charge.

What do I receive at the end of my visit?

If you are approved, you will receive a Physician Recommendation valid at any dispensary in California.*

What is the State of California card I have been hearing about?

The State of California can issue you a state identification card.  You must take the recommendation that you receive from us to a County Health Department office and pay a fee.  This card places your name in a state database and makes it easier for law enforcement to identify you as a medical marijuana patient.  It does NOT make you more legal than the recommendation alone.  It also takes away your anonymity.  Most patients choose not to pursue this option.

When does the Recommendation expire?

By law, the recommendation will expire one year after it is issued to you.

Does insurance cover this service?

No private insurance, Medicare or Medi-Cal will cover the costs of this evaluation.

What about confidentiality?

Your records and personal information will not leave our office unless a.) you send us a written request to have them sent out or b.) we receive a summons from a court requiring us to provide your records in a legal matter.
